Heathers Made Me Do It...

Heathers... A movie so sick and twisted I would’ve NEVER thought I could possibly be inspired by it. Yet, here I am. Since I’ve watched that movie all I can thinking about are how many cool amazingly unique looks I could recreate. Looks inspired by but not restricted to that particular time. If im being honest, had you told me 5 years ago I would be so obsessed with 80s Fashion or vibes so strongly influenced by the 90s, I would've asked you to pass what you were smoking.... Lol. But yet again, here I am!

Styles from that genre can be tricky. Your first thought is probably “How could I make that look current?” or “How can I NOT look like the 80s threw up on me?”. The answer to that is actually very simple. MIX IT WITH CURRENT SILHOUETTES! That’s right! Current cuts, styles & trends make all the difference when styling up vintage pieces.

Mixing vintage pieces into your current look make them feel more interesting rather than dated. Like you put thought into your outfit. The vintage items then become your statement piece/pieces that add a unique flare to your look as a whole.

Take this outift for example... Every single piece of this outfit was Thrifted except for the jeans. The shirt was actually Thrifted from the Men’s section and I got a tall size so it would be longer. By adding this longer shirt under this cropped, western, 80s style blazer, I was able to play with proportions and create a unique look. The more trendy piece I chose to pair both items with were these Lucky Brand skinny jeans. The jeans are what really brought this look current. With the blazer having a more western vibe I decided to finish the look with these AMAZING gold mules because they have a western vibe of their own. Again, THRIFTED! These shoes actually retail for $295 but I Thrifted them for $24!! Such a steal right?!

By following some simple style rules the look came together PERFECTLY! It gave me aaaaaaaall the Heathers vibes I needed! So next time you see a vintage piece and you can’t figure out how to make it work, think of all the modern more trendy pieces you could pair with it to make it feel and look current.
